Abstract
The literary heritage of Ukrainian writers in Poland after the Second World War is extremely diverse, colourful and rich in thematic range. It has been studied by Stefan Kozak, Vasyl Nazaruk, Stefania Andrusiv, Eleonora Solovey, Tadeusz Karabovich, Yuriy Havryliuk, Yaroslav Hrytskovian, Viktor Iaruchyk, and others. Our attention will be focused on the literary diversity of Ukrainian-language lyrics, in particular their spiritual foundations: sources, establishment, and popularisation. The Ukrainian literary community in the second half of the twentieth century was formed during the so-called Khrushchev Thaw. During the period of totalitarian easing of pressure on art and literature after Stalin’s death, the countries of the socialist camp experienced a revival of life. In Poland, the Ukrainian national minority was given the opportunity to establish itself and to organise. In 1956, Ukrainians were allowed to establish the
Ukrainian Social and Cultural Society. The development of fiction and the opportunities for its publication led to the need to expand publishing aspirations. Poetry prevails among original literature, with prose and drama being less common. Translation work is becoming more active. Thanks to the aforementioned masters of literary translation, classical authors from Poland, as well as representatives of the Young Muse, modernists, and later postmodernists, have been translated into Ukrainian.
