Polish Literary Reportage and its Reception in the Czech Republic

Abstract

This article focuses on describing the main features of the unique form that literary reportage undoubtedly is. The authors also describe the historical development of reportage and literary reportage in Poland, mentioning key Polish authors who have influenced the development, form and understanding of literary reportage. The authors aim to offer the reader a broader context important for a deeper understanding of the tradition and popularity of this genre. The article also highlights the differences between Polish and Czech reportage, a genre that has no parallel in the Czech literary and cultural area. The authors also concentrate on Czech translations of Polish literary reportage and outline the situation of Polish literary reportage on the Czech literary market. The topic concludes with several examples of Czech readers’ receptions.
