Abstract
Between 2001 and 2017, seven books by the well-known Polish writer Andrzej Stasiuk were gradually published in the Czech Republic. Although such a number of translations can be considered a success in the Czech context, Stasiuk has not found either loyal readers or a permanent translator into Czech. His texts have been translated by an unprecedented fourteen different translators, with an age difference of 53 years between the youngest and oldest of them. Sometimes as many as three translators worked on a single book. This article asks how much the large number of translators and the diversity of their approaches can influence an author’s success or failure in a foreign cultural environment.
