Rebellious Czechs, Rebellious Poles. Narratives of contestation

Abstract

In my article, I address the presentation of Poland and Poles in the Czech magazine Revolver Revue in the late 1980s. Significantly, a lot of texts by Poles were printed in the magazine alongside those that spoke about Poland. An imagological perspective allows us to see that Czech revolvers consistently upheld the stereotypical image of Poles as patriots and Catholics, which went hand in hand with their fascination with Solidarity. It is also interesting to juxtapose the attitude of the “RR” toward Poles with that of the “brulion” editors toward Czechs. The two titles are not coincidental: there was cooperation between them in the 1990s.
