Abstract

This article examines the literary works of the Nenets writer Anna Nerkagi. The analysis focuses on two of her works: Aniko of the Nogo Clan (1977) and White Arctic Moss (1996). The author discusses the representation of the traditional lifestyle of the Nenets people and its disintegration caused by historical, civilizational, and cultural transformations. The article is divided into two main sections. The first explores the lifestyle of nomadic Nenets in the tundra, while the second examines the attitudes of young, urbanized Nenets toward their ancestral traditions. The conclusion posits that Nenets literature lacks a postcolonial perspective. This absence is particularly significant given that both analyzed books address the subject of boarding schools, where young Nenets were subjected to Russification and state atheism. The author points out that Nerkagi elevates the issue of abandoning ancestral traditions to a metaphysical level.
