Abstract
This article examines the linguistic and axiological aspects of communication styles demonstrated by characters of different generations—teenagers and their parents—using the example of Maria Malukhina’s play November Call (Noyabrskyj zov). The analysis focuses on how value orientations are reflected in speech behavior, highlighting idiolect, speech intentions, ideological constructs, and conceptual metaphors as key markers. Attention is drawn to a generational inversion in communicative competence: teenagers demonstrate a higher degree of empathy, emotional maturity, and sincerity than adult characters. Through a comparative analysis of speech acts, the article reveals how value-laden expressions, linguistic creativity, and technometaphors shape the individual and collective identities of the characters. Teenagers’ communication is characterized by openness and reflexivity, while adults often imitate youth speech patterns and strive for self-presentation and external approval. The findings expose a significant conflict in axiological systems, where adolescents seek authenticity and emotional truth, whereas adults rely on socially approved behavioral models. Furthermore, the results highlight the growing importance of virtual communication in shaping speech behavior and value hierarchies among young people, an influence that often surpasses its significance for the older generation. Ultimately, the representation of communication styles in dramatic texts provides rich material for studying the transformation of values and intergenerational dynamics in contemporary society.
