Abstract
In this article, the author presents and analyzes two trends that are evident in the books by Ukrainian writers, 100 Short Stories About War by Boris Humenyuk and Real Estate by Anna Gruver. These trends are driven by the current Russian-Ukrainian war, the existential challenge that this war has posed to the Ukrainian writers in particular and inhabitants of Central and Eastern Europe in general. One is masculine, sharp, expressive, focused on fighting the enemy that has invaded one’s land. The other is feminine, sensual, reflective, focused on remembering the horrific experiences of war. Despite the differences between them, both are essentially focused on supporting life and defending human rights and freedoms. The article also discusses the aesthetic qualities of the books mentioned.
