Abstract

The subject of this paper is the reflection on the motives for the behaviour of the king’s Popiel from "The Spirit-King" by Juliusz Słowacki. My reflection was possible thanks to the article entitled "Metaphysical loneliness" by Jerzy Kopania. This article is about the type of loneliness which means no answers to questions about the existential. Kopania describes the levels of this metaphysical loneliness: loneliness to nature, to fate, to other people and finally to God. I noticed a convergence of Popiel’s behaviour and this kind of loneliness, so I decided to write about it.
