Abstract

The article discusses the forgotten letters of Zofia of the Elzenbergs Błażejewiczowa to the philosopher Henryk Elzenberg. They come from the years 1909 – 1918, and can be found in the Henryk Elzenberg Archives at the Library of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (Rps 1863 / III). Zofia Błażejewiczowa was the oldest sister of Anna of the Elzenbergs Záhorská, the poet and critic, and cousin of Henryk Elzenberg. Her letters, full of humour and familial warmth are an irreplaceable source of information on the early period of life of the philosopher and his family relationships. We learn a lot about the cordial relations linking Henryk Elzenberg with his sister and her children, also on the basis of cited passages of the the letters. Zofia Błażejewiczowa disappeared without a trace after 1918 in post-revolutionary Russia. The philosopher kept her letters, and a photograph till the end of his life.
