Abstract

On the twenty-ninth of June 1980 the Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński Museum was opened in the Pranie forester’s lodge on Lake Nidzkie. This was the place where the outstanding poet spent the last years of his life with breaks (1950-1953). This is where he wrote his most beautiful works: the poems "Niobe" and "Wit Stwosz", "Olsztyn Chronicle" and the cycle "Songs". For many years, the poet’s daughter Kira Gałczyńska and her husband Janusz Kilański were the curators of this museum. Since September 1997 the curators of this place have been Jagienka Kass and Wojciech Kass – the director of the museum. Thanks to the developed and consistently implemented programme under the name of Ośrodek Promienny [Radiant Centre], the Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński Museum in Pranie has become an institution vibrant with artistic, literary and cultural life. It is known in the country for its many cultural initiatives. It hosts, among others, numerous concerts, performances, author’s meetings and exhibitions. The institution’s activity contributes significantly to the dissemination of literature and music, as well as the poetic work of Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński. The museum also constantly enriches its collections with objects related to the author of "Zaczarowana dorożka" ["Enchanted Cab"], as well as takes various forms of care dedicated to enriching knowledge about the life and work of the poet by, among other things, organising a scientific conference in 2019.
