Abstract

In his article entitled “Zawisza Czarny” by Juliusz Słowacki Marek Dybizbański proves, among other things, that the Polish bard’s text has been preserved in the form of a diverse collection in which mutually contradictory solutions meet and alternative works overlap, just because Słowacki ultimately did not write a drama, that is: he did not lead it to a finite form that would have obtained an author’s stamp, preferably in the form of an authorised publication. After the poet’s death, the initiative was taken over by manuscript researchers, editors, as well as literature historians, working according to their contemporary standards, which in the meantime slowly evolved, as a result of which "Zawisza Czarny" went through several different phases in the history of its critical reception. The researcher concludes that the attempt to find a way to publish the text of "Zawisza Czarny", which will foster a multidirectional reading of the, after all, “scattered” text, inevitably leads to genetic editing.
