Abstract

The development of Belarusian Mickiewicz studies begins with the momentous initiative of Aleksander Jelski (1834-1916), who in 1885, only 30 years after the death of an outstanding poet, published an article entitled Adam Mickiewicz in Belarus, establishing strong foundations for a new research area in the history of literature.

Understanding the place and role of the author of Pan Tadeusz poem became important in the Belarusian context at the turn of the 80s and 90s of the last century. One of the eminent continuators of conceptual Jelski’s thought was Włodzimierz Marchel (1940-2013) – the author of several treatises on Belarusian literature of the 19th century, including articles on Mickiewicz and a study entitled You are like health ... Adam Mickiewicz and the revival trends in Belarusian literature. The researcher analyses the directions and forms of Mickiewicz’s work which had an influence on the development of modern Belarusian literature in the Belarusian language.
