Abstract

In her article the author focuses on the issue of imagology, presented in the light of the interpretation of Victor Alexandrovich Chorev. The researcher emphasises that Chorev was the first to start in Russia to develop a new direction in literary science, called imagology (Lat. imago – image, figure, reproduction). It is he who – according to Musijenko – gave to his compatriots the theoretical foundations of this teaching, which today is one of the most important and most current (although in places too antinomic) issues of the mutual historical-literary-cultural relations between the representatives of two Slavic nations: Poles and Russians. Musijenko also notes that the scholar’s research is characterized not only by the fundamentality, the problem-thematic richness of the material under consideration and the depth of thought, but also the refinement in their formulation, the originality of the views, and also the inventiveness of the approach to the intriguing problems of literature, culture and language.
