Abstract

This article discusses one of the forms of dissemination of Polish books in Lithuania among Poles in the 1930s, the so-called circulation, travelling or flying libraries. This last name for the libraries was accepted by readers and existed until 1940, when the cultural life of the Poles in Kaunas Lithuania was completely destroyed by the new Soviet power. The form of the “flying library” meant that every member of such a community of readers was to commonly purchase between 4 and 8 books. They were most often bought in the “Stella” bookshop of Julian Urniaż in Kaunas.
