Abstract

The article analyses Zygmunt Gloger’s Historical Geography of Old Poland, a book which presents the history of Poland from the times of preChristian Slavs up to the Partitions, and it does so in three parts. The first part concerns the beginnings and changes of tribal (and later state) borders, the second – internal administrative divisions, the third – dioceses and bishops during the reign of the Piasts, Jagiellonians, and kings elected. The author of the article interprets Gloger’s book through the notion of “map”, understood as a literary, cultural and social phenomenon.
