Abstract

The article focuses on Heinz-Gerhard Friese’s Die Ästhetik der Nacht. Eine Kulturgeschichte. Leib und Raum, published by Rowohlt in Hamburg in 2011. In his study, Friese formulates a comprehensive theory of night as the inner experience of man, and then goes on to elaborate on the aesthetics of night in the culture of Western Europe. The merit of Die Ästhetik der Nacht lies in the fact that it explores the issues that have long been marginalized in philosophical reflection.
