Abstract

In her review of Grzegorz Zając’s monographic study, Tender Judgment. The Poetic Works of Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz, Barbara Noworolska gives a detailed and intriguing portrait of the author of Deputy’s Return. The reviewer presents the poet’s reflections on the passing of time, on death, on the history of masses, arguing that they are instrumental in our understanding of Niemcewicz’s outlook on life, and the world he lived in. Praising Zając’s book, Noworolska points to the fact that Tender Judgment is the first monographic study dedicated to Niemcewicz’s poetry, and, at the same time, an important contribution to the field of Polish studies.
