Abstract

The child is the hero of several stories in the collection of analyzed legends of Podlasie region. Most children had witnessed miracles, manifestations of holiness. Such a child can be defined as a medium between the temporal and the spiritual world. Another types of children that have occurred in the legend are: the hero, the clever and the prankster. Legends of the Podlasie region show rather severe life of a child in the countryside. There is no question about the myth of arcadian childhood. Legend told for a warning and knowledge are still timeless species whose values are relevant today, acting pattern to follow. The positive features of children’s heroes, their diligence, resourcefulness, courage as well as respect for nature can be a pattern of behavior for future generations.
