Abstract

This article deals with female characters in Henryk Sienkiewicz’s first published novel In Vain – their particular characteristics and values that made them prototypes for other characters in Sienkiewicz’s later novels. Accordingly, the author of the article compares some of the best-known female characters created by Sienkiewicz in his other novels with the two main female characters of In Vain.
