Abstract

The text reviews Michał Siedlecki’s Metaphysical Myśliwski, a study on metaphysical motifs in Wiesław Myśliwski’s works. The author of the review recalls various interpretations of Myśliwski’s prose from psychoanalysis to the history of the so-called “peasant literature”, looks at the reception of this prose, presents different ways of understanding and defining metaphysics in Siedlecki’s book, and touches upon the use of philosophy in literary interpretation. According to Sokołowska, Siedlecki’s main concerns are: Myśliwski’s application of metaphysical discourse to reflect upon the Polish countryside and the analysis of the ways of perceiving the world by its inhabitants.
