Abstract

The author presents a new analytical interpretation of Stefan Żeromski’s two novels: Living Stones and Wind from the Sea. The texts are interpreted through the
prism of thematological examination, in which the main focus is “senses” (and the springboard for all theoretical deliberations being S/Z by Roland Barthes). Two
types of aesthetic experience seem to be of particular importance in both works: the gustatory and the olfactory. The affinity that links both novels is signalled in
their titles and is further confirmed in the stories themselves.
