Abstract
The author analyses the features of The ethos of a modern academic teacher (i.e. of researchers and teachers), examining his own observations against the statements of such authors as Kazimierz
Twardowski, Allan Bloom, Bill Readings, Jacek Bieliński, Robert Merton, Alasdair MacIntyre and others. The author concludes that in the situation of the present academic community, subject to rivalry and corporate authority – direct, personal, dialogic and creative relationship between the scholars, trainees and students becomes a matter of fundamental significance and incalculable value. Reflections on the mentor-mentee relationship are particularly exposed in the modern academic discourse.
