Abstract

The article presents a Ukrainian writer of the 21st century, Oleksii Bobrovnykov, as a representative of travelogue prose. The study analyzes the means used by the author to create the literary ethno-image of Georgians in his travelogue titled Around Georgia. In search of the treasures of the country of wolves. The author has managed to reproduce the typical (historical, geographical, landscape, ethnographical, cultural, lifestyle) features of the Caucasian country by means of contrasts, allusions and retrospections. This made it possible for an Ukrainian travelogue to convey the idea of the whole nation as an ‘other’ cultural environment, different from the Ukrainian’s. Such works encourage cross-cultural communication, and moreover, they are significant for mutual understanding of the two nations since a traveller notices the features of national (ethnic) psychology and character. It gives impetus to understanding the formation of collective and individual consciousness and identity as well as of creating powerful myths about other nations.
