Abstract
The article looks at the development of readership and educational activities in libraries and reading rooms in Polesie in 1919-1939, i.e. at the time when lack of
book collections was one of the biggest problems in education. The problem, let us add, which affected other provinces in the Eastern borderlands as well. Among intervening measures taken at the time there were: book-collecting campaigns all over Poland, promotion of readership, development of library network (both public and private), and launching the Polish Society for the Eastern Borderlands.
