Abstract
The article arranges in order and discusses all critical studies on Adam Mickiewicz’s The Crimean Sonnets published so far, highlighting various, often controversial opinions. Drawing on Gaston Bachelard’s concept of poetic time, the author proposes her own methodological approach to the work of the great Polish Romantic poet. W hat is given prominence in her critical analysis is the relation between poetry (and poetic mood) and description (descriptiveness) - the problem particularly significant in the context of The Crimean Sonnets. Taking issue with the scholars who read Mickiewicz’s sonnets as a form of descriptive text, the author - following Bachelard - presents the cycle as an example of pure poetry that avoids descriptive functions.
