Abstract
The author presents the history of one of Białystok’s most characteristic buildings - Książnica Podlaska’s premises, 16 Kilińskiego Street. The article reviews the
building’s rich documentation, its fascinating history, and - most importantly - it revises some popular fallacies: for example, the claim that the building used to be the Masonic Lodge’s premises. In his examination, the author draws on the tradition of historical investigation, contemporary regionalism and theory of geopoetics.
