Old tales and beliefs of Podlasie in the contemporary Polish comics }, volume={45}, url={https://bibliotekarzpodlaski.pl/index.php/bp/article/view/233}, DOI={10.36770/bp.233}, abstractNote={<p>The article is devoted to the functioning of Yotvingian legends and demonic characters of the Polish-Belarusian and Polish-Lithuanian borderland in Podlasie in the plots of contemporary comic books, graphic novels of renowned authors: Karol Malinowski and Adam Święcki. The analysed comic books have different artistic value, but what they have in common is the fact that their stories are rooted in Podlasie, and their motifs from Slavic culture are characterised by syncretism. On the example of the comics of the two authors, the article presents ways of recalling old tales typical of Podlasie in contemporary popular culture. The article as well demonstrates significance of the comic book art as an important medium for conveying various traditions, which, in a simple and direct way, reach the contemporary audience and in some cases remain loyal to the multicultural – rich in various beliefs – community, allowing the reader to get acquainted and understand this part of tradition which is important for the region. </p>}, number={4}, journal={Bibliotekarz Podlaski}, author={Kochanowski, Marek}, year={2019}, month={Dec.}, pages={333–351} }
