It is true that Norwid met Słowacki in person as late as in March 1849, but before his death he managed to pay him three visits to his Paris apartment at rue Ponthieu 30. He recorded his impressions of these visits in his sketch Black Flowers (Czarne kwiaty). The lectures On Juliusz Słowacki, delivered in April and May 1860, are an expression of Norwid’s appreciation and tribute to Słowacki. The poet remained an enthusiast and careful reader of Słowacki’s works until the very end. It was Słowacki and Krasiński that became the most important “giants” who influenced Norwid ideologically, aesthetically and mentally.
ER -
