Abstract

In the second half of the 19th century, the condition of the national spirit, especially in the lands that once belonged to the Polish-Lithuanian state, was not a subject that was treated indifferently. This was the case of the inhabitants of the former Polish Livonia, whose enlightened representatives repeatedly, despite difficult living conditions, grew up on patriotic readings and lofty ideals. The article draws attention to the Limanowski brothers born in Podgórze-upon-Daugava: Józef, Lucjan and Bolesław. Their voice became particularly meaningful on this plane. For this reason, an attempt was made to examine romantic metaphors resounding in their voice, and above all the resonance it gained in Latgale.
