Abstract

In 2018 Zofia Zarębianka published a book Bóg wpisany w wiersze. Teologia poetów obcych [God Inscribed in Poems. Theology of Foreign Poets], with an introduction by Krzysztof Kuczkowski, editor-in-chief of the periodical Topos. A year later, under the same title and with the subtitle Teologia poetów polskich [Theology of Foreign Poets], a supplement to this study was published. The author treated both exceptional monographs as an opportunity to present the history of Zofia Zarębianka’s research focused on literature, for whom such categories as sacrum or sanctum play a key, even constitutive role. The starting point of the engagement in sacred studies by the Jagiellonian University scholar is a fragment of her doctoral dissertation entitled O poezji religijnej i sposobach jej badania [On religious poetry and ways of researching it], published in Roczniki Humanistyczne in 1990. The climax point is the theology of foreign and Polish poets. The space between them is filled by the theory of reading the practiced sacrum on such authors as Anna Kamieńska, Jan Twardowski, Czesław Miłosz and Karol Wojtyła.
