Abstract

The article tackles the issue of Ukrainian translations of Cyprian Kamil Norwid’s works – starting with the first mentions of the Polish poet in the Ukrainian critical and literary space and ending with the latest translations of his works. The paper focuses mainly on the characteristics of the translations included in the collection Poems. A translation from Polish, the first full edition containing over 70 Norwid’s poems and fragments of his major works. The researcher cites the opinions of literary critics that analysed the adequacy and equivalence of these translations, and illustrates them with the help of exemplary fragments of translations. Answering the question about the scale of the task –translating Norwid into foreign languages – the author of the article adds memories and reminiscences of Ukrainian and Russian translators.
