Abstract

Reviewing Agnieszka Czajkowska’s Kraszewski Undressed. Sketches, Michał Siedlecki points to the fact that although the texts from the volume refer to Józef Ignacy Kraszewski’s quotidian life and his literary work, they do so against the backdrop of Romanticism and literary Positivism, as well as in the context of contemporary literary masterpieces. Arguably, Czajkowska’s book is an important attempt to show Kraszewski not only as the man of his times, but also to present him in a surprising juxtaposition with apparently distant writers, such as Gombrowicz or Konwicki. Thanks to the critical remarks of Czajkowska the language of our everyday life – be it in the kitchen or in the walk-in closet – reflects upon itself ironically in the long-gone world of the 19th century.
