Abstract
The author of the article sketches a portrait of Dora Kacnelson, a pre-eminent Slavicist, a scholar doing research on the history of the Eastern borderlands and Polish deportations to Russian penal colonies. Born in 1921, Dora Kacnelson, a Polish patriot, significantly contributed to sorting out collections of Polish literature in Vilnius and putting them in order. She recorded the fate of scholars from Vilnius and Lvov during WW II, and she taught at various colleges from Połock (Belarus) to Czyta (Siberia). 10 years after her death her work is still inspirational. What happened to Dora Kacnelson’s legacy – her archive with 270 files and about 300 microfilms, in particular – remains an open question.
