Abstract
This article is devoted to presenting the evolution of the inaugural speeches of Russian presidents. This genre was formed and developed in the United States, in the Russian Federation is a relatively new phenomenon. The material includes the speeches of the Russian presidents: B. N. Yeltsin, W. W. Putin and A. D. Medvedev from 1991–2012. The author analyzes the structure of speeches, their themes, the functions they perform and their toposes.
